Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev won his initial trophy for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a difficult period, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in specific - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now training with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks his initial title following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court since that period of that year.

Success also means Medvedev has secured 21 titles at twenty-one different events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my children at once, so to secure a title is really nice," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his previous six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

His retrieving play style and regular outbursts on the playing surface had prompted some to question if his ability to compete at the top level was over.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and compete positively, reinforced by an improved serve.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky opponent, securing 4 of the final five games to go ahead.

The competitors swapped breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden tour title, took control to create a final set.

He saved four early break points in a competitive final set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner earned the title with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
